It is a toy size dog breed as well as looks very cute. Handling them is not a task as it is playful and easy to handle dog breed. They are not good swimmers. It’s a long hair dog breed. The hair size of Shih Tzu is around 4 to 5 inches and their hairs are silky. It depends upon you how you keep them either with open hairs or you can even clip their hairs. Shih Tzu looks very beautiful in clipped hair. However, due to their heavy coat, they are less tolerant of heat. It is not a guard dog its a playful and family companion dog breed. They love to play with the owner. They are outgoing and always in a playing mood. This breed love to live with the owner all the time so, they will follow you wherever you go. Care of Shih Tzu
As mentioned above, it is a long hair dog breed so it requires proper hair care. You have to use good quality shampoo to make them look beautiful with its long hairs. Otherwise, your dog will look dirty and will smell bad. You need to brush and comb their hairs daily. You also need to check their nails and trim them from time to time. Clean their ears regularly. Apart from this, you need to take care of their skin because the dog’s skin is easily prone to ticks and finding a tick on the skin is typical with such long hairs. Moreover, if not cared properly they get allergies like skin problems and always remember to cut the hairs falling on their eyes otherwise they will get irritated. Furthermore, Shih Tzu doesn’t require much exercise. A daily small walk and some playtime are enough for them.
Training them can be difficult as they are like your pampered child. So, you have to develop new ways and techniques to train them. Like give them a task and after completion of the task, awarding them with something or praising them can be the best way to teach things easily. Socialization is necessary to develop and grow a well-mannered dog.
This breed required less amount of food. They don’t eat much in quantity but they require food with good nutrition. If you are giving home food then you must give them after consulting your breeder or doctor. Food should be given to them according to their age.
